I have an HP Cse printer. Yes it is an old printer but supper dependable and don't want to have to buy another. I have a desktop that has Win7 Home Premium bit on it and I can install this printer on there. It will not install itself so I need a driver. I can go to drivers on the HP site but there isn't one listed for this version of Win7.
I don't understand why I can't find one because I have a laptop with Win7 with the same operation system and the printer work on it fine. I really would appreciate some help with this. Is there a way to find the drive on my laptop and copy it? The driver is delivered through Windows Update. There are a few things to try: start with the document here the Deskjet cse and cxi use the same driver.
If the above do not help then try the following: click Start, Devices and Printers, Add a Printer, local printer, LPt1: as a placeholder , Next, Windows Update and wait for the list to repopulate this may take a few minutes. At this point you should be able to connect the USB cable and have the system automatically install the driver on the proper post.
If all the above fail not likely then post the details back here along with any error messages. It is also possible to download the driver normally delivered through Windows Update from the Microsoft Catalog site, but the steps are rather involved and I would rather not write them up unless needed. I am not an employee of HP, I am a volunteer posting here on my own time.

OK, how about a few details - are you connecting with USB or a parallel port? Does the printer show up if you go to Start, Devices and Printers? If so, then right click on the Deskjet and select Printer Properties, Ports.
What port is listed? The only error message is in the print status which reflects: "error - printing". The printer works fine with my old computer with Windows XP.
The port you have appears to be a USB-parallel cable. These can be problematic. The Deskjet has a USB port. The USB port can be difficult to find, it is just above the parallel port on the back of the printer, somewhat hidden. Did you get a USB cable and did that resolve the issue?
